How to Choose the Right Flying School ?

Essential Factors to Help You Make the Right Decision for Your Pilot Career

So you’ve completed your ground classes—maybe with Eazy Pilot 😉—and now you’re ready to take to the skies. But with so many flying schools in India and abroad, choosing the right one can be overwhelming.

Here’s a guide to help you make a smart, future-proof decision when selecting your flying school:

1. DGCA Approval & Licensing Quality

This is non-negotiable.

  • Make sure the school is approved by DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation, India).
  • If you’re going abroad, check for ICAO recognition and ensure the license is convertible to an Indian CPL.

👉 Pro Tip: Ask the school how many students have successfully converted foreign licenses in the last year.

2. Location: India or Abroad?

Both have pros and cons.

Flying in India:

  • Familiar airspace and regulations
  • Easier CPL conversion
  • May take longer due to weather/ATC delays

Flying Abroad (South Africa, USA, Canada):

  • Faster flying due to better weather
  • Exposure to international standards
  • Higher upfront cost in European countries, but often better aircraft availability

Choose based on your budgettimeline, and career goals.

3. Fleet and Simulator Quality

Inspect the number and condition of training aircraft.

  • Are they using modern glass cockpit trainers or outdated models?
  • Do they have dedicated maintenance support?
  • Do they offer simulator hours aligned with CPL requirements?

Schools with in-house simulators and diverse fleet types give you better experience and flexibility.

4. Instructor Experience & Student Ratio

The quality of instructors can make or break your training.

  • Ask about their experience, certifications, and flying hours.
  • Check the student-to-instructor ratio—you want enough personal flying time, not just theory.

Talk to current or recent students if possible. Their feedback is gold.

5. Flying Hours, Timeline & Availability

  • Make sure the school guarantees full CPL training (200 hours) and helps you finish in a predictable timeline.
  • Ask about weather delaysair traffic congestion, and instructor/aircraft availability.

Some schools may advertise 6-8 months provided you have completed your exams, but realistically it takes 12+months. Be clear before you commit.

Bonus: Job Placement & Airline Tie-ups

Some schools offer:

  • Airline pathway programs
  • Internship tie-ups
  • Campus placement options

While these aren’t guaranteed, schools with a strong alumni network or airline connections give you an edge in recruitment.

Completing ground school is a big milestone—congrats! 🎉
Now it’s time to invest wisely in your flying school. Don’t just follow the crowd or flashy ads. Do your research, ask tough questions, and choose a place that supports your dream to fly professionally
